we got tired of dashboards nobody opened

Between us we’d spent years inside bigger firms, building slick analytics that got a round of nods in the demo and then sat untouched. The reports were beautiful. Nobody used them. So we stopped pretending that was fine.

Larkspur Data started in a small office on Daniel Boone Road with one rule we still follow: read the actual data before promising anything. Not a discovery deck, not a workshop — the real, ugly spreadsheets where the numbers live. That’s where you find out whether a project is worth doing or a waste of everyone’s money.

We’re small on purpose. The person who scopes your project is the person who builds it and the person who explains it to your team at handover. No account manager relaying messages to a developer you never meet.

And we bill per project, invoiced net-30. No monthly retainer humming away in the background whether or not you need us. When the work’s done, it’s done — and it’s yours.

If your data isn’t ready for a predictive model, or a dashboard would be overkill for what you need, we’ll say so before you spend a dollar. Losing one project beats building something you’ll regret.

plain english, always

If we can’t explain what a model is doing in words your team can defend to a board, we haven’t finished the job. “It’s complicated” is not an answer we let ourselves give — every query and choice gets documented in language a non-engineer can follow.

a fixed price before we start

You get a real scope and a real number up front — cleanup included, not bolted on as a mid-project surprise. If it grows, we tell you why and quote it before touching it. No stopwatch, no creeping invoice.

Every file, query, and pipeline is handed over so your team can run it without us. No hostage tooling you can never leave.

the shop behind the reports

We’re a two-person practice, not a warehouse of contractors. When you email Larkspur, one of us reads it — no ticket queue, no bot with a name. We take on a handful of projects at a time so the person who understands your data never gets swapped out halfway through.

We work with small and mid-size teams around Southwest Virginia and remotely — clinics tracking outcomes, shops watching inventory, founders trying to make sense of three tools that don’t talk to each other. If you’ve got a folder of spreadsheets and one person who “knows the numbers,” that’s enough to start.
